Removing barriers to education, work, and belonging.
The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) builds and runs programmes that help people access learning, enter the workforce, and find stability in new communities.
History
Since 2022, TEEI has reached more than 20,000 participants across active programmes.
Focus
Targeting practical barriers: language, verified skills, professional networks, social connection.
How we work
Programmes are designed to be practical, low-barrier, and participant-focused, with clear structures for onboarding, delivery, and outcomes tracking.
Programme Portfolio
Together for Ukraine
Programmes for displaced professionals rebuilding careers and community. Since 2022, five connected programmes have served more than 20,000+ Ukrainians.
Mentors for Ukraine
Problem Addressed
Displaced professionals often have strong skills but lack connections in unfamiliar job markets. Without local context, qualified candidates struggle to navigate hiring practices.
Delivery Model
Connects Ukrainian professionals with experienced mentors (Tech, Finance, HR, Law, etc.) for 45-60 min video sessions. Platform manages scheduling. Sessions cover remote hiring, CV evaluation, and professional norms.
Scale / Outcome
2,000+ mentees. 400+ mentors.
Language Connect for Ukraine
Problem Addressed
Fluency requires sustained conversation practice that many learners cannot access consistently through classroom learning alone.
Delivery Model
One-to-one video sessions with volunteer conversation partners worldwide. Learner-directed focus (job interviews, daily life). Volunteers set availability; learners book directly. No curriculum.
Scale / Outcome
8,000+ learners. 30+ countries represented.
Language Courses
Problem Addressed
Some learners need structured progression: grammar instruction, error correction, systematic vocabulary, and documented proficiency levels.
Delivery Model
Formal instruction through volunteer teachers. 2-3 sessions weekly over 8-12 weeks. Curriculum from Oxford University Press. Delivery via itslearning.
Scale / Outcome
Quarterly cohorts. Multiple proficiency levels.
Upskilling
Problem Addressed
Employment in the global technology sector often requires verified, current credentials that displaced professionals may lack.
Delivery Model
Job-relevant credentials via DataCamp, Splunk, and Automation Anywhere. Delivered through TEEI Skills Academy with volunteer support.
Scale / Outcome
50,000+ hours of learning delivered. Industry-recognised certifications.
Buddy Program
Problem Addressed
Skills and language ability do not guarantee belonging. Understanding local culture requires human connection.
Delivery Model
Pairs Ukrainians in Norway with local residents for ongoing friendship and mutual support. Relationship building between equals, not service provision.
Coverage
Active in six Norwegian cities: Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim, Kristiansand, Drammen.
Digital First Steps
Digital literacy for women in the United States facing barriers to participation. Work, healthcare, education, and public services have moved online.
Why this programme exists
Digital skills are now a baseline requirement for many jobs and essential services. Women facing economic hardship, care responsibilities, or geographic isolation are disproportionately affected by this gap. The barrier is access to suitable training, not ability or motivation.
Who the programme serves
- Women with care responsibilities Limited time and high daily workload. Built around low weekly hours.
- Women in rural communities Limited broadband, long distances. Designed for smartphone-first access.
- Women re-entering the workforce Online applications and portal onboarding create barriers.
- Women new to the United States Unfamiliar systems, high-stakes digital processes (benefits, healthcare).
Programme Structure
8 weeks. Approximately 16 hours total.
Device fundamentals
Smartphone or computer basics. Navigation, files, browsers. Account setup.
Communication
Email, attachments, messaging apps, video calls. Recognising suspicious links.
Life applications
Healthcare portals, telehealth. Job search. Benefits navigation.
Safety and next steps
Scam recognition. Evaluating information. Intro to AI tools. Personal plan.
How the programme is delivered: Digital First Steps is delivered through trusted local organisations: libraries, community centres, family support organisations, and workforce partners.
Together for Her Success
Programmes for girls and women facing barriers to education and work. Girls' education is consistently linked with stronger life outcomes.
Why access fails
- Time poverty: Care responsibilities reduce available learning time.
- Language: Blocks access to training, services, and employment.
- Social isolation: Increases dropout risk and limits opportunities.
- Digital exclusion: Restricts participation in work and education.
The Pathway
Connection
Peer support that reduces isolation through regular check-ins.
Language
Structured classes with qualified teachers in a consistent online format.
Skills
Digital skills, communication tools, safety, and foundational AI literacy.
Mentorship throughout: Supports clarity and confidence across the pathway: career guidance, CV feedback, interview preparation.
Where the programme operates
Latin America: Priority region. North America: Remote participation. Ukraine: Continued delivery.
