Process

Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps to submit your matching gift request through Benevity.

  1. 1

    Find Your Company's Benevity Portal

Here's what most guides won't tell you: You won't find an app called 'Benevity' in your SSO dashboard. Companies rebrand it. Look for your company's internal giving program name instead.

Check your Okta, Ping, or SSO dashboard for names like 'Spark', 'Giving', 'Employee Giving', 'Community', or 'Volunteer'. Still stuck? Email your HR team and ask: 'Do we use Benevity for matching gifts?'
  2. 2

Search for TEEI by EIN (Skip the Name Search)

Pro tip: Don't search by name alone. Benevity's search is buggy, and there are dozens of education nonprofits with similar names. Search by our EIN 33-2331817 to find us instantly.

Select 'The Educational Equality Institute' headquartered in New York, NY (US 501(c)(3)). Do not select any UK-based or similarly-named organizations.
  3. 3

Enter Your Donation Details & Upload Receipt

Benevity requires specific information: date of donation, exact amount, organization name, and a 'no goods or services' statement. Missing details = rejected match.

The PDF receipt we emailed you after your donation has all required info. Check your inbox for an email from contact@theeducationalequalityinstitute.org. Can't find it? Contact us and we'll resend within 24 hours.
  4. 4

Submit Your Match & Track Status

Review your information and hit submit. Benevity will verify your donation with us (1-5 days), then your employer processes the match (2-4 weeks). You'll receive email confirmation at each stage.

Did you also volunteer? Many companies offer volunteer grants ($10-25/hour) in addition to matching gifts. Log those hours in the same portal!

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I can't find my company's Benevity portal?

Most companies rebrand Benevity with their own name. Search your SSO/Okta dashboard for terms like 'Spark', 'Giving', 'Employee Giving', or 'Community'. Check your benefits page or HR portal. If still stuck, email your HR team: 'Do we use Benevity for matching gifts?'

Why can't I find TEEI when I search by name?

Benevity's search can be inconsistent. Always search by our EIN: 33-2331817. This bypasses any name-matching issues and takes you directly to our profile.

What's the matching gift deadline?

It varies by employer. Common deadlines: December 31 of the donation year, 90 days after the donation, or January 31 of the following year. Check your company's specific guidelines in the Benevity portal.

My receipt was rejected. What's missing?

Most rejections happen because the receipt is missing the 'no goods or services' statement. Contact us at contact@theeducationalequalityinstitute.org and we'll send you a compliant receipt within 24 hours.

Does my company offer volunteer grants?

Many Benevity clients offer volunteer grants (sometimes called 'Dollars for Doers'). Log your volunteer hours in the same portal. Microsoft pays $25/hour, Google provides $10/hour, and Nike credits $10/hour toward additional donations.

How long does the matching process take?

Typically 2-4 weeks. Benevity verifies your donation with us (1-5 days), then your employer processes the match (1-3 weeks). Some companies process matches quarterly. You'll receive email confirmation at each stage.
