<div>

 <p>Together for Ukraine Programme Overview</p>
</div>

Ihor was a marketing professional in Kyiv. Then came February 2022.

Like millions of Ukrainians, he found himself navigating a world that had shifted beneath his feet. He had skills. He had experience. What he didn't have was a network in the countries where he might find work, or confidence that his English was strong enough for job interviews, or any sense of how European employers would view a CV formatted for a Ukrainian job market.

He wasn't looking for sympathy. He was looking for a foothold.

Through Mentors for Ukraine, Ihor connected with a professional mentor who did something simple but profound: she treated him as a peer. Together, they conducted a SWOT analysis of his career. They rebuilt his LinkedIn profile. They practised interview scenarios. The mentor shared how recruiters actually think, which questions to expect, how to frame experience gained in a country now at war.

<div>

 <p>Ihor R. - How mentoring helped navigate job market</p>
</div>

Ihor's story isn't unique. It's one of more than **20,000** since February 2022.

## The Insight That Changed Everything

When Russia launched its full-scale invasion, the humanitarian response was immediate and necessary: shelter, food, safety. But as weeks became months and months became years, a different question emerged.

What happens when people don't need support anymore? What happens when what they need is a way forward?

The Educational Equality Institute's answer was Together for Ukraine: not a single programme, but an interconnected ecosystem. Not aid, but infrastructure. Not something done *to* displaced Ukrainians, but something built *with* them and *for* them to use on their own terms.

The model rests on an observation that seems obvious once you see it: a professional rebuilding their career doesn't need just one thing. They need a pathway.

Someone might first need to sharpen their English. Then they need technical skills that translate to remote or international work. Then they need someone who understands their target industry to review their CV and prepare them for interviews. Then they need connections to actual opportunities.

Each need is distinct. But they're not separate. They flow into one another. And the infrastructure that serves them should work the same way.

Since 2022, Together for Ukraine has delivered:

- **8,000+** language learners practising conversation skills
- **2,000+** mentees connected with professional mentors
- **400+** mentors sharing expertise across eight career categories
- **66,900+** hours of digital skills training
- Participants across **50+ countries**

These numbers represent something more than scale. They represent a different way of thinking about support itself.

## Language: The First Door

For Viktoriia, the invasion shattered more than geography. It shattered confidence.

Finding herself in a new country, needing to communicate in English for everything from grocery shopping to job applications, she felt the gap between who she had been and who she could become.

Language Connect gave her a way across that gap.

<div>

 <p>Viktoriia Z. - Transformative experience after invasion</p>
</div>

The programme connects Ukrainians with volunteer conversation partners from around the world for live, 1-to-1 video sessions. Not formal lessons with grades and pressure, but genuine conversations. The kind where you can stumble over words and laugh about it. The kind where mistakes become learning instead of embarrassment.

The platform, powered by Kintell, lets learners browse volunteer profiles, book sessions that fit their schedule, and choose partners who speak the language they're learning: English, German, French, Spanish, Polish, and more than a dozen others. Since 2022, more than **8,000 Ukrainians** have used the platform to build fluency and confidence.

What keeps learners coming back, often for months or even years, is the quality of connection. Somewhere along the way, language partners stop feeling like tutors and start feeling like friends. That's not an accident. It's what happens when support is designed around human connection rather than transactional service delivery.

For those who want more structure, TEEI Language Courses offer small-group classes led by volunteer teachers, running two to three times weekly over several months. The courses use itslearning as a learning management system, with content from Babbel, Oxford University Press, and BOOKR Class for younger learners.

Many participants use both: structured courses to build foundations, conversation practice to build fluency. The programmes are designed to complement each other.

## Skills: The Bridge to Opportunity

Language opens doors. But in a competitive global economy, technical skills determine what's on the other side.

The Upskilling, Employment and Mentorship Programme has delivered more than **50,000 hours** of digital skills training since 2022. The curriculum spans web development, software engineering, data science, machine learning, IT support, automation, AI, HR, marketing, project management, and business intelligence.

Courses are delivered through itslearning with content from DataCamp for data and analytics, Splunk for technology skills, and other partners. Teacher-led online sessions combine with self-paced learning and hands-on projects.

But here's what makes the system work: upskilling doesn't exist in isolation.

A participant learning data science can connect with a Student Mentor for accountability and study support. As they complete the curriculum and begin applying for jobs, they can transition to a Professional Mentor who helps them position their new skills for the market. The same platform that hosts their coursework connects them to career guidance.

This integration means people don't fall through gaps between programmes. The infrastructure carries them forward.

## Mentorship: The Human Element

Technology scales. Platforms scale. But some things only happen human to human.

Mentors for Ukraine connects Ukrainian professionals with experienced mentors across eight categories: Entrepreneurship, Tech and Digital, Marketing, Business and Management, Personal Development, Finance, Growth and Sales, and Design and Creativity.

The **400+ mentors** on the platform bring expertise from companies and industries around the world. The **2,000+ mentees** bring ambition, resilience, and skills forged in circumstances that would break many people.

What happens between them is more than knowledge transfer.

Penny has been mentoring through the platform since the early days. She keeps coming back because of what she receives, not just what she gives: the chance to meet remarkable people and help them see their own lives through fresh eyes.

<div>

 <p>Penny M. - Why she keeps coming back</p>
</div>

The mentors share practical expertise too. Heidi helps mentees localise their CVs for different markets, explaining what UK employers expect versus US or European ones. Sanam, a recruiter, shares insider knowledge that changes how people approach job applications entirely.

<div>

 <p>Sanam E. - Recruiter reveals you only need 60-70% match</p>
</div>

Her advice: you don't need to match 100% of a job posting's requirements. 60-70% is enough. Apply anyway. Don't self-reject before you've even tried.

This kind of guidance, specific and practical and grounded in how hiring actually works, can change someone's entire job search. It's knowledge that insiders take for granted but outsiders rarely have access to.

The platform handles scheduling, video calls, and impact tracking. Mentors can offer occasional sessions when they have time or build ongoing relationships with multiple mentees. The commitment is flexible. The impact is not.

## Entrepreneurship: Building, Not Just Rebuilding

Not everyone wants a job. Some people want to build something.

TEEI's women's entrepreneurship programmes provide a structured pathway from first idea through investment readiness. The multi-stage track moves participants through foundational entrepreneurship education, MVP development, startup acceleration, and leadership training.

Over months of structured learning, participants work through innovation methodology, market research, stakeholder engagement, legal considerations, funding strategies, business modelling, prototyping, marketing, sales, team building, and investor pitching.

Expert facilitators and corporate mentors guide each cohort. The programme culminates in investor engagement opportunities, including demo days where founders present to potential backers.

For Ukrainian women building businesses despite everything, this isn't charity. It's the same calibre of support that startup founders anywhere would seek. The difference is that it's accessible.

## Belonging: The Buddy Programme

In Norway, where TEEI is headquartered, one programme takes a different approach entirely.

The Buddy Programme for Ukraine doesn't teach skills or provide career guidance. It provides friendship.

The programme matches Ukrainians living in Norway with local residents for regular social activities. Coffee. Walks. Exploring neighbourhoods. Attending cultural events. Cooking meals together. Learning about each other's worlds.

Active in six Norwegian cities (Oslo, Stavanger, Bergen, Trondheim, Kristiansand, and Drammen), the Buddy Programme recognises something essential: integration isn't just about language or employment. It's about feeling like you belong somewhere.

For Ukrainians who've left behind not just homes but entire social networks, having one person who's genuinely curious about their life and eager to share their own can change everything.

[**Become a buddy in Norway →**](/volunteer/buddy/)

---

## The Volunteers Who Make It Work

Behind every number is a human being giving their time.

Gideon volunteers as a language partner through Language Connect. For him, the most rewarding part isn't teaching grammar or vocabulary. It's watching confidence grow. Seeing someone who started hesitant become fluent in their ability to express themselves.

<div>

 <p>Gideon L. - Building learner confidence</p>
</div>

This is what the model depends on: hundreds of people around the world choosing to spend an hour here or there having conversations, reviewing CVs, sharing expertise. None of them are paid. All of them find the exchange worthwhile.

The requirements are low. Language partners don't need teaching credentials. Mentors don't need formal coaching certifications. What matters is experience worth sharing and willingness to share it.

## How Companies Partner

For organisations seeking meaningful ways to engage employees and demonstrate commitment to social impact, Together for Ukraine offers ready infrastructure.

**Skills-Based Volunteering**

Employees can mentor Ukrainian professionals through Mentors for Ukraine, using their expertise in technology, business, marketing, finance, or other fields. The platform tracks hours and impact for CSR reporting. Employees develop coaching and cross-cultural communication skills. Ukrainian participants receive guidance from experienced professionals.

**Workplace Giving**

TEEI is listed on major workplace giving platforms including Benevity, GlobalGiving, Alaya, CyberGrants, and YourCause. Employees can donate through corporate portals and access matching gift opportunities.

**Strategic Partnerships**

Companies seeking deeper engagement can partner on curriculum development, programme sponsorship, or joint initiatives aligned with business priorities and ESG commitments.

The infrastructure already exists. Corporate partners plug into something proven rather than building from scratch.

[**Explore corporate partnership opportunities →**](/partners/employee-volunteering/)

---

## What Makes This Different

Traditional humanitarian response treats people as recipients. Together for Ukraine treats them as participants.

The distinction matters. When support is designed around capability rather than need, everything shifts. Ukrainians don't queue for services. They browse platforms, book sessions, set their own schedules. They rate their experiences and leave reviews. They choose which programmes fit their goals and move between them as those goals evolve.

The infrastructure doesn't ask people to be grateful. It asks them to show up and do the work.

This framing attracts a particular kind of volunteer too: people who want to engage as peers rather than saviours. Mentors who treat mentoring sessions as professional conversations between colleagues. Language partners who approach conversations as cultural exchange rather than charity.

The result is something that feels less like aid and more like access: access to the networks, knowledge, and opportunities that people with stable circumstances take for granted.

---

## The Road From Here

Together for Ukraine began as an emergency response. Three years later, it has become something else: proof that scalable, dignified support infrastructure works.

The war continues. The need has not diminished. But what exists now is a model that can grow. A model that has already reached 20,000+ people across 50+ countries. A model moving toward a goal of 100,000 Ukrainians served.

More importantly, it's a model that could work beyond Ukraine. The platforms, the partnerships, the integration between programmes: none of it is specific to this crisis. It's infrastructure for educational equality that happens to have been proven at scale through the Ukrainian response.

Ukraine is not the end of the story. Ukraine is the proof of concept.

For now, the work continues: more language partners connecting with learners, more mentors sharing expertise, more participants developing skills that translate to economic stability. Each conversation, each session, each course completed moves someone closer to a future they're building themselves.

That's what Together for Ukraine actually is. Not something TEEI does for people. Something people do for themselves, using infrastructure designed to make it possible.

She could write campaigns, analyze data, and manage teams. But every job interview ended the same way: her German wasn't strong enough.

Language apps gave her vocabulary. Grammar classes taught her the rules. What she needed was someone to actually talk with-to practice for that next interview, to stumble through sentences without judgment, to build the confidence that only comes from real conversation.

Language Connect exists to solve exactly this problem.

<figure>
<div>

</div>
<figcaption><strong>Oksana K.</strong> - Language Connect learner from Ukraine</figcaption>
</figure>

## What Language Connect Does

Language Connect is a free digital platform that pairs Ukrainians with volunteer conversation partners for live 1-to-1 video sessions. No textbooks. No tests. Just people talking.

The platform runs on the same Kintell technology behind Mentors for Ukraine: a searchable directory of volunteer profiles, time-zone aware scheduling, integrated video calls, and mobile apps for iOS and Android.

More than 8,000 Ukrainian learners use Language Connect. Hundreds more join every month.

Volunteers come from everywhere: teachers in Toronto, engineers in Stockholm, retirees in London, students in Prague. They offer English, German, French, Spanish, Polish, Italian, and a growing list of additional languages. No teaching credentials required-just fluency and willingness to show up.

## Why Conversation Practice Changes Everything

Millions of Ukrainians now live in countries where a new language stands between them and nearly everything: housing applications, parent-teacher meetings, medical appointments, job interviews.

Formal classes build foundations. Apps fill vocabulary gaps. But speaking confidence only comes from practice with real people.

Language Connect delivers that practice at scale. Learners choose their own volunteers based on profiles and ratings. They book sessions around their schedules, across any time zone. They practice what they're actually facing-interview questions, workplace scenarios, everyday conversations about schools and landlords and neighbors.

One learner put it simply: "The first time I understood my son's teacher without translating in my head, I cried."

<figure>
<div>

</div>
<figcaption><strong>Viktoriia Z.</strong> - From hesitant speaker to confident communicator</figcaption>
</figure>

## How It Works

**For learners:**

1. Sign up and browse volunteer profiles by language, topic, and availability
2. Book a session at a time that works (calendars sync automatically)
3. Join the video call through the platform-no external links needed
4. Leave a rating and review, then book again or try someone new

**For volunteers:**

1. Apply with LinkedIn or email verification
2. Set your availability and language offerings
3. Accept or decline booking requests
4. Track your sessions and impact through the platform

Every session happens inside the platform. Both sides control their own calendars. Ratings and reviews maintain quality.

## Part of Something Larger

Language Connect plugs directly into TEEI's broader ecosystem for Ukrainians:

**Structured language courses** through itslearning, Babbel, and Oxford materials deliver formal instruction. Language Connect turns classroom learning into real-world capability.

**The Upskilling and Employment Program** trains Ukrainians in data, marketing, project management, and AI. Learners use Language Connect to nail interviews and workplace communication in their new fields.

**Mentors for Ukraine** provides career guidance and professional mentorship. Language Connect handles the language side so mentors can focus on career strategy.

The result: a complete pipeline. Learn the skill. Practice the language. Get the guidance. Land the opportunity.

## For Volunteers: What You're Actually Doing

You're not teaching grammar. You're giving someone the practice they need to function in a new country.

Most volunteers commit to a few hours per month. Some give more. One volunteer in Munich has logged over 100 sessions-conversations that helped dozens of professionals prepare for German workplaces.

The platform handles logistics. You control your time. Every conversation moves someone forward.

<figure>
<div>

</div>
<figcaption><strong>Charmaine D.</strong> - Language Connect volunteer</figcaption>
</figure>

## For Partners and Donors: What Your Support Enables

Language Connect runs on digital infrastructure that scales. Your support maintains the platform, funds outreach to new learners, and expands volunteer recruitment.

Every dollar powers the connection layer-the technology and coordination that makes 8,000+ learner relationships work without heavy manual overhead.

Corporate partners integrate Language Connect into skills-based volunteering programs. Employees sign up, contribute conversation time, and track their impact through session analytics.

## The Outcome

Language barriers isolate. They stand between displaced professionals and everything else-jobs, housing, schools, healthcare, belonging.

Language Connect removes them. Not with apps. Not with grammar drills. With real conversations, repeated until the barrier isn't there anymore.

When Olena finally got through a German interview without freezing, it wasn't because she'd memorized more vocabulary. It was because she'd practiced enough to stop translating in her head.

One conversation at a time. That's how fluency happens.

<figure>
<div>

</div>

Andrii Kostiuchenko has attended 77 career mentoring sessions. Before the war, he had a career. After displacement, he had questions: How do hiring processes work in this country? What do employers actually want to see on a CV? How do I explain a gap that was not my choice?

He found answers through Mentors for Ukraine.

Andrii is one of 2,000+ Ukrainians who have used the platform to connect with professionals who understand how careers actually work. Not through a course. Not through a textbook. Through real conversations with people who have been on the other side of the hiring table.

This is what Mentors for Ukraine does. And after three years of operation, it has become one of the most effective ways to support Ukrainians rebuilding their professional lives.

## What Mentors for Ukraine Actually Is

Mentors for Ukraine is a global 1-to-1 mentoring platform run by The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI). It connects Ukrainians affected by war and displacement with experienced professionals worldwide for free video mentoring sessions focused on careers, skills, and professional development.

The platform currently serves 2,000+ mentees supported by 400+ mentors from hundreds of organisations across the globe.

Here is what it is not: a job placement service. A recruitment agency. A training course.

Here is what it is: a way for someone rebuilding their career in an unfamiliar country to sit down with a professional who understands their field and get honest, practical guidance. The kind of conversation that used to happen naturally through professional networks. The kind of conversation that becomes nearly impossible when you have had to leave everything behind.

Since 2022, the platform has delivered thousands of mentoring sessions across career coaching, technology, business, entrepreneurship, and personal development. Every session is free for mentees. Every mentor volunteers their time.

## Who Uses the Platform

### The Mentees

The Ukrainians using Mentors for Ukraine are not starting from zero. They are economists, engineers, marketers, project managers, and software developers who had careers before the war disrupted everything. Many hold advanced degrees. Many have years of experience in their fields.

What they lack is not capability. It is context.

They need to understand how hiring works in Germany, or Poland, or the UK, or wherever they have landed. They need someone to review their CV and tell them honestly whether it makes sense to a recruiter in their new country. They need to practise interviewing in English. They need to understand which of their skills transfer and which credentials matter.

The platform serves:

- Students and recent graduates navigating their first job search in a foreign market
- Mid-career professionals adapting their expertise to new contexts
- Women re-entering the workforce or transitioning into new fields
- Early-stage entrepreneurs testing business ideas
- Career changers moving into digital, tech, or new sectors
- Participants in TEEI's upskilling and language programmes who want additional support

Mentee profiles are private by design. Many users are refugees or internally displaced persons in vulnerable situations. The platform protects their information while giving them access to the guidance they need.

### The Mentors

The 400+ mentors come from every corner of the professional world:

- HR professionals and recruiters who know exactly what hiring managers look for
- Software engineers, data scientists, and AI specialists
- Marketing and communications professionals
- Product managers and UX designers
- Finance and consulting professionals
- Entrepreneurs and startup founders
- Educators, trainers, and coaches

They come from companies and institutions across Europe, North America, and beyond. Some have been volunteering since 2022. Some have completed dozens of sessions. A few have completed over 100.

What they share is not a specific background but a willingness to give their time and expertise to someone who needs it.

## How It Works: A Self-Serve Model

Mentors for Ukraine operates on a self-serve model. There is no application process where mentees wait to be matched. There are no structured cohorts or intake cycles. Mentees browse available mentors directly and book sessions that work for their schedule.

### The Platform

The programme runs on Kintell's mentoring infrastructure, combining search, booking, video conferencing, messaging, and analytics in one place. It works on web and mobile (iOS and Android), handles time zones automatically, and syncs with calendars.

Every mentor has a public profile card showing:

- Their professional headline and background
- Languages they speak
- Topics they can help with
- Their work history and LinkedIn profile
- Star ratings and written reviews from previous mentees
- Number of completed sessions

Mentees search by category, skill, topic, or language. They read profiles, check reviews, and choose mentors who match their needs. Then they book directly from the mentor's available time slots.

### Two Modes of Mentoring

**Flexible on-demand mentoring:** Mentors publish their availability. Mentees book one-off sessions for quick questions, CV reviews, interview preparation, or focused advice. This works well for specific, time-sensitive needs.

**Structured long-term mentoring:** Some mentor-mentee pairs develop ongoing relationships. They meet regularly over several months, working through career goals systematically. Mentors can enable recurring sessions for this kind of deeper support.

Both modes run on the same platform. Mentees choose what works for them.

### A Typical Session

Sessions typically run 30 to 60 minutes. The mentee joins a video call through the platform at the scheduled time. No external tools required.

Afterwards, mentees can leave ratings and written reviews. These help other mentees find the right mentor and help mentors understand what is working.

---

## What Mentors Help With

The platform organises mentoring into categories that cover the full spectrum of professional development:

### Career and Job Search

This is where most conversations start. Mentors help mentees with:

- CV and résumé reviews tailored to specific countries and industries
- LinkedIn profile optimisation
- Interview practice with real feedback
- Understanding local hiring processes and what recruiters actually look for
- Job search strategy for specific markets
- Decoding job descriptions and requirements

<div>

 <p>"You only need 60-70% match. Do not wait for perfect." – Sanam E.</p>
</div>

### Technology and Digital Careers

For mentees moving into tech or already working in the field:

- Web development and software engineering career paths
- Data science, analytics, and AI roles
- UX/UI design and product management
- Remote work and freelancing in tech
- Navigating technical interviews and coding assessments

<div>

 <p>"Technical path: analyst, scientist, AI engineer. Management: team lead, project manager, COO." – Debajyoti D.</p>
</div>

### Business and Entrepreneurship

For those building businesses or considering the entrepreneurial path:

- Testing and refining business ideas
- Building MVPs and finding early customers
- Funding basics, pricing, and go-to-market strategy
- Pitch preparation and storytelling
- Operations, legal, and scaling questions

<div>

 <p>"Resilience, resourcefulness, and humor under pressure" – Ryan G-L.</p>
</div>

### Professional Skills and Growth

For broader professional development:

- Navigating workplace culture and expectations in new countries
- Leadership and management challenges
- Communication and presentation skills
- Building confidence in professional settings
- Personal branding and networking

<div>

 <p>"How to structure your career story" – Gideon L.</p>
</div>

### Additional Categories

The platform also covers marketing, finance, design, HR, project management, consulting, and more. If a mentee needs guidance in a professional area, there is likely a mentor who can help.

## Part of Something Larger: The TEEI Pipeline

Mentors for Ukraine does not exist in isolation. It is one component of a broader ecosystem TEEI has built to support Ukrainians from language learning through to employment.

### Language Connect

Many Ukrainians face a fundamental barrier before they can think about career strategy: language. [Language Connect](/students/ukrainian/language-connect/) provides free 1-to-1 conversation practice with volunteer tutors worldwide. It runs on the same Kintell platform as Mentors for Ukraine.

8,000+ learners have used Language Connect to build confidence in English, German, Polish, and other languages. For many, this is the first step. Once they can communicate professionally, career mentoring becomes far more valuable.

<div>

 <p>"After the invasion, I found hope through these conversations" – Viktoriia Z.</p>
</div>

Want to volunteer as a language tutor? [Join Language Connect](/volunteer/language-connect/)

### TEEI Language Courses

Structured group language classes complement the conversation practice. Free, teacher-led online courses run 2 to 3 times per week for 2 to 3 months, using materials from partners including Babbel and Oxford University Press.

### Upskilling and Employment Programme

TEEI offers free online courses in web development, software engineering, data science, marketing, HR, project management, and more. Every learner in these programmes can request a mentor to support their learning journey and job search.

### Women's Entrepreneurship (WEEI)

The Women's Entrepreneurship Initiative supports Ukrainian women building businesses. Mentors for Ukraine provides the mentoring layer, connecting founders with professionals who can advise on strategy, product development, finance, and growth.

### Careers for Ukraine

TEEI's job board lists opportunities suitable for programme graduates. Mentoring prepares candidates to compete effectively for these roles.

### The Pipeline

Together, these programmes create a complete pathway:

**Language learning → Conversation practice → Skills training → Career mentoring → Employment or business creation**

A Ukrainian professional might start with language courses, build confidence through conversation practice, develop new skills through upskilling programmes, work with a mentor on job search strategy, and ultimately find employment through the careers platform.

Mentors for Ukraine is the connective tissue that helps people move from learning to doing.

## Your Impact Now Has a Name: The Professional Credential System

In January 2025, TEEI launched something new: a Professional Credential System recognising the people who power these programmes.

Until then, contributions existed only in spreadsheets. Charmaine De'Ath had completed 707 language tutoring sessions. Andrii Kostiuchenko had attended 77 career mentoring sessions. Their commitment was real but invisible.

Now it is recognised with professional credentials.

### How It Works

The system includes 8 tiers across 4 tracks: mentors, career fellows (mentees), language tutors, and language learners. As participants complete more sessions, they automatically qualify for higher credentials.

### For Mentors for Ukraine Mentors

| Sessions | Credential |
|----------|------------|
| 2+ | TEEI Mentor |
| 5+ | TEEI Certified Mentor |
| 10+ | TEEI Senior Mentor |
| 25+ | TEEI Lead Mentor |
| 50+ | TEEI Principal Mentor |
| 100+ | TEEI Distinguished Mentor |
| 200+ | TEEI Master Mentor |
| 500+ | TEEI Mentor Fellow |

### For Career Fellows (Ukrainian Professionals)

| Sessions | Credential |
|----------|------------|
| 2+ | TEEI Career Program Participant |
| 5+ | TEEI Career Fellow |
| 10+ | TEEI Senior Career Fellow |
| 25+ | TEEI Lead Career Fellow |
| 50+ | TEEI Principal Career Fellow |
| 100+ | TEEI Distinguished Career Fellow |
| 200+ | TEEI Master Career Fellow |
| 500+ | TEEI Career Ambassador |

### What You Get

Every credential includes:

- A professional digital badge in TEEI's signature teal and gold, featuring the Together for Ukraine logo, your name, tier, and session count
- A PDF certificate suitable for printing or including in portfolios
- An instant verification page with a unique URL that anyone can check
- One-click LinkedIn integration

When someone clicks your badge, they see your name, achievement, session count, and issue date, all verified by TEEI.

### Why This Matters

For Ukrainian professionals, these credentials demonstrate commitment, consistency, and professional development during an extraordinarily difficult period. A "TEEI Principal Career Fellow" badge represents 50+ sessions of active career development work. Employers can verify it instantly.

For volunteers, it documents the hours they have given and creates a tangible recognition of sustained commitment.

TEEI built the entire system in-house because existing badge platforms did not meet the standard required. When a volunteer shares their credential on LinkedIn, it needs to look exceptional. When a Ukrainian professional adds "TEEI Career Fellow" to their profile, recruiters need to take it seriously.

## For Individuals: How to Become a Mentor

Becoming a mentor requires professional experience, not mentoring experience. If you have worked in your field for a few years and can communicate clearly, you have what it takes.

### Requirements

- **3+ years of professional experience** in any relevant field (HR, tech, marketing, finance, consulting, design, education, business, or similar)
- **Ability to communicate** in English or another widely spoken language
- **Willingness to listen**, be honest, and focus on practical next steps
- **Respect for privacy** and safeguarding principles

You do not need teaching credentials. You do not need coaching certification. You need real-world experience and the willingness to share it.

### The Sign-Up Process

1. Visit the [Mentors for Ukraine sign-up page](/volunteer/mentors-for-ukraine/) and select "Advise and help others"
2. Verify your identity with your corporate email address
3. Select your areas of expertise
4. Complete your profile with your background, LinkedIn URL, and relevant experience
5. TEEI reviews your application
6. Once approved, create your mentor card and set your availability

### Time Commitment

You control your schedule completely. Set availability when it works for you. Accept or decline booking requests as they come. Even 1 to 2 hours per month makes a real difference.

Many mentors start with a few sessions per month and adjust based on what works. Some have scaled up significantly. Penelope Morcillo has completed 41 sessions. Laman Bakirli has completed 34. Malsha Jayasekara has completed 29.

### What You Gain

Beyond the satisfaction of helping someone navigate a genuinely difficult situation, mentors develop coaching and communication skills, gain cross-cultural experience, and earn professional credentials they can add to LinkedIn.

Complete 2 sessions and earn your first TEEI Mentor badge. Keep going and progress through the tiers.

## For Companies: Corporate Mentoring Partnerships

Mentors for Ukraine offers a ready-made, low-friction corporate volunteering programme that aligns with ESG, DEI, and refugee response goals.

### Why Companies Partner with TEEI

**Skills-based volunteering that matters.** Employees use their actual professional expertise, not generic volunteer tasks. An HR professional helps with interview preparation. A software engineer explains technical career paths. A marketing director reviews positioning strategy for a new business.

**Clear metrics and reporting.** The platform tracks mentors, sessions, hours, topics, and feedback. TEEI provides engagement reports showing exactly what your employees contributed and the impact they had.

**Flexible and remote.** Mentoring happens online, fits into existing schedules, and requires no travel or coordination overhead. Employees control their own availability.

**Strong alignment with corporate priorities.** Supporting displaced professionals aligns with refugee response initiatives, education access programmes, and workforce development goals. It also develops employees' coaching and leadership capabilities.

### How Corporate Partnerships Work

**Option 1: Corporate Mentoring Partner**

Recruit mentors from your staff through internal communications. Run campaigns targeting specific expertise areas your employees can offer. Receive regular engagement and impact reporting.

Companies can start small with a single business unit or team and scale based on results.

**Option 2: Strategic Programme Partner**

Co-develop focused mentoring tracks for specific populations: women in tech, data careers, youth professionals, veterans, or other groups. Combine mentoring with specific courses or bootcamps. Shape the programme to align with your CSR priorities.

**Option 3: Funding Partner**

Support the platform's scaling, technology, and coordination through direct funding. Combine financial support with employee volunteering for maximum visibility and impact.

### Getting Started

1. Identify an internal sponsor (CSR, HR, DEI, or business leadership)
2. Define target regions, business units, and volunteer outreach approach
3. Launch with a pilot cohort and clear KPIs
4. Review engagement data and scale based on results

TEEI provides materials for internal campaigns, onboarding support for new mentors, and ongoing reporting.

## The Numbers Behind the Programme

Since launching in 2022, Mentors for Ukraine has grown into one of TEEI's flagship programmes:

- **2,000+ mentees** have joined the platform
- **400+ mentors** from hundreds of organisations worldwide
- **Thousands of mentoring sessions** delivered across career, tech, business, and personal development
- **50+ countries** represented by participants and volunteers

These are cumulative figures representing everyone who has engaged with the platform since launch. The programme continues to grow as more mentors join and more Ukrainians discover it.

---

## Why Mentoring Matters

Formal education and training are essential. TEEI invests heavily in both. But they are not enough on their own.

What many people need, especially those navigating unfamiliar systems in unfamiliar countries, is a person. Someone who knows how things actually work. Someone who can look at a CV and say honestly what needs to change. Someone who can explain the unwritten rules of a job interview in this country, in this industry, at this level.

That is what mentoring provides. Real conversations with real people who have relevant experience.

<div>

 <p>"It was more than career support. It was life coaching." – Ihor R.</p>
</div>

<div>

 <p>"The Healthy Mind Platter is a way of looking at how you are balancing your life" – Penny M.</p>
</div>

For Ukrainians rebuilding careers after displacement, these conversations can be the difference between months of unsuccessful applications and a clear strategy that leads to meaningful work.

For professionals worldwide with expertise to share, these conversations are a direct, high-impact way to help.

The mentoring pipeline connects naturally to the rest of TEEI's support ecosystem. Many Ukrainians who join Mentors for Ukraine first build language confidence through [Language Connect](/blog/language-connect-for-ukraine/), where 8,000+ learners practise English, German, and other languages with volunteer conversation partners before moving into professional career discussions. For mentors who want to understand what their mentees are navigating before they walk through the door, the analysis of [employment among Ukrainian refugees](/blog/employment-among-ukrainian-refugees/) explains the credential recognition gaps, language barriers, and unfamiliar hiring norms that make professional guidance so essential. The complete story of how all these programmes connect - from first language lesson to first job offer - is told in [TEEI's integrated pipeline from first login to first job](/blog/from-first-login-to-first-job-how-the-pieces-connect/).

Language Connect gives Ukrainians a place to practice that moment.

After the invasion, Viktoriia found hope in something modest: a recurring appointment to practise English. When everything felt uncertain, the session gave her structure, something to prepare for, and someone to talk to outside the immediate crisis. The English practice mattered for her career. The human connection mattered just as much.

That is the terrain Language Connect works in. The hardest part of learning a new language is rarely vocabulary on a screen. It is the moment the language has to carry consequences: at a school reception desk, in a medical appointment, in a job interview, in the ordinary exchange that decides whether daily life moves forward or stalls.

Since 2022, 8,000+ Ukrainians have used the programme for one-to-one conversation practice with volunteer partners around the world.

## When Language Has to Work

Millions of Ukrainians displaced by war have had to rebuild daily life in languages that now carry unusual weight. Housing applications, medical appointments, school enrolments, job interviews, workplace small talk, a first conversation with a manager: none of these moments look like a lesson.

Language apps and formal courses still matter. They help with vocabulary, structure, and repetition. But they do not fully prepare someone for the unpredictability of being interrupted, misunderstood, corrected, or asked to explain themselves on the spot.

Confidence is built elsewhere: in live conversation, where meaning has to survive pressure.

<figure>
 <div>

 </div>
 <figcaption>The programme overview shows how one-to-one conversation practice turns study into usable speech.</figcaption>
</figure>

## The Part No Course Can Simulate

Language Connect offers free one-to-one video conversation practice. Ukrainians affected by war can browse volunteer profiles, choose by language and availability, book a session, and use that time to rehearse whatever the next week is likely to demand.

It is not a course and it is not a tutoring marketplace. It offers something simpler: repeated access to live conversation with real people. The platform handles matching, scheduling, time zones, and video calls. The learner-facing reality is even simpler: two people show up and talk.

### Inside a session

Most sessions last 30 to 60 minutes. The learner sets the direction based on what would make the next week easier. That might mean:

- rehearsing answers before a job interview
- talking through a doctor's appointment or school conversation
- practising pronunciation and listening comprehension
- working on workplace language and professional tone
- simply getting used to speaking without freezing

There is no rigid curriculum. The goal is simple: keep speaking until the language feels more usable outside the session.

## What Repetition Changes

The shifts are often less dramatic than outsiders expect. Fluency does not arrive all at once. What returns first is willingness: to answer sooner, to stay in the sentence longer, to recover after a mistake.

For Viktoriia, regular appointments brought structure during a period of uncertainty and a sense that someone outside the crisis still had time for her. For Iryna, 18+ months on the platform turned tutors into friends and routine practice into professional competence: the ability to write work emails, follow meetings, and pick up where the last conversation left off instead of starting over every time.

<figure>
 <div>

 </div>
 <figcaption>Viktoriia on how regular conversation practice helped her reconnect and move forward.</figcaption>
</figure>

Andrii, a student, values something else: hearing accents, expressions, and ways of thinking from volunteers in the UK, the US, Germany, and France. Valeriia is blunt about pronunciation: a book cannot correct a sound in real time. A person can.

What these accounts share is repetition. The session itself is small. The effect accumulates.

## The Scale of Showing Up

Because each session is small, scale can look abstract from the outside. It is not abstract inside the routine.

Since launching in 2022, the programme has grown without changing its basic idea:

- **8,000+ Ukrainian learners**
- **Hundreds of volunteer conversation partners**
- **Thousands of one-to-one sessions**
- **Hundreds of new users joining each month**

The volunteer role is deliberately narrow. Volunteers do not need teaching credentials. They do not need to design lessons or grade homework. They need fluency in at least one language, comfort with video conversations, patience, and the willingness to keep a conversation moving when someone is searching for words.

That is part of why the model lasts. People can contribute in ways that fit ordinary life:

- one conversation a week
- a few sessions each month
- a small recurring block of time that stays manageable

For many volunteers, the change is visible over time. Learners who once stalled out begin to hold the thread of a sentence, phrase things more clearly, and recover more quickly from mistakes. The totals matter, but repeat use says more than reach alone.

Charmaine De'Ath has completed **707** language tutoring sessions through the platform. Amy Frewing has completed **355**. On the learner side, Lesia has attended **375** sessions while rebuilding her life in a new country.

These are not one-off registrations. They reflect routine use over time, hours turned into habit.

That continuity is also recognised through the [Professional Credential System](/blog/professional-credentials-launch/), which documents sustained contribution for both volunteers and learners. But the stronger evidence is older and simpler: people keep coming back.

## A Bridge, Not a Destination

For some learners, conversation practice is not the destination. It is the bridge between study and the next practical step toward work.

A learner taking technical courses can use Language Connect to practise industry vocabulary aloud. A participant preparing for Mentors for Ukraine can rehearse answers before meeting with a professional mentor. Others use the sessions to make training, interviews, or workplace conversations feel less precarious.

The value is continuity. When speech feels more usable, the next form of support has a better chance of landing.

The programme is built around a simple assumption: displacement interrupts continuity, not capability.

Most people in Language Connect had careers, routines, and professional identities before displacement. What has changed is the environment in which those abilities have to be expressed.

That is why the structure matters. Learners browse. Learners choose. Learners book. Volunteers arrive as conversation partners rather than rescuers.

## What Conversation Restores

Language recovery rarely arrives as a dramatic breakthrough. More often, it returns in smaller, quieter ways: a question understood the first time, an appointment handled without translation, an interview answer finished without panic.

Those moments do not sound historic. In a displaced life, they often decide what becomes possible next.

Conversation is only one part of rebuilding a life. But it is the part where capability becomes audible again. Before mentoring can help, before training lands, before work opens up, someone has to speak and be understood.

Practical paths, kept simple: Ukrainian learners can [find a conversation partner](/students/ukrainian/language-connect/) or [read the sign-up information in Ukrainian](/uk/students/ukrainian/language-connect/). Potential volunteers can [become a conversation partner](/volunteer/language-connect/), and workplace teams can [explore corporate volunteering](/corporate-volunteering/language-connect/).

<authorRole>The Educational Equality Institute</authorRole><featured>true</featured><readingTime>11 min</readingTime>

TEEI and Automation Anywhere Unite to Deliver Next-Genera...

Equipping Ukrainian Refugees with Essential Digital Skills and Globally Recognized Certifications The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) is excited t...

## Equipping Ukrainian Refugees with Essential Digital Skills and Globally Recognized Certifications

The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) are excited to announce our latest initiative: the innovative automated mentorship platform. This cutting-edge platform is a cornerstone of our learning and mentorship program, meticulously crafted to enhance the mentor-mentee experience.

By leveraging algorithms and a user-friendly interface, we simplify communication, streamline scheduling, and foster solid and meaningful relationships that can support personal and professional growth for our Ukrainian participants.

### **Types of Mentorship**

As a part of our commitment to providing tailored mentorship experiences, we offer two distinct types of mentoring: Student Mentorship and Professional Mentorship.

**Student Mentorship**: Mentors assist and motivate student mentees on their learning journey, providing tailored support and follow-up guidance as they develop new skills and helping them to build professional networks.

**Professional Mentorship**: Professional mentors provide feedback on resumes and cover letters, answer questions and use their industry contacts to help mentees find employment opportunities.

### **Key Features:**

Our platform further enhances these mentorship experiences by offering both Flexible, On-Demand Mentoring and Structured Mentoring.

**Flexible, On-Demand Mentoring** provides guidance and advice on an as-needed basis. Mentors create a profile, and indicate when they’re available. They have control over their schedule, with the ability to adjust availability, reschedule meetings, or decline requests from mentees.

**Structured Mentoring** is for those seeking a more structured and consistent mentorship experience. Our platform matches mentors and mentees based on shared professional interests. This feature encourages longer-term mentor-mentee relationships with a defined duration (e.g. six months) and recommends regular meetings to discuss goals, track progress, and strategize on development.

This dual approach to mentoring also allows flexibility for mentees to book either one-time advice sessions or establish long-term relationships with specific mentors.

### **Advanced Platform Features**

#### **Dynamic Scheduling and Availability**

Mentors can manage their availability through a backend calendar, making it easy to coordinate sessions that fit their schedule. This feature ensures mentors can efficiently balance their mentoring commitments.

#### **Comprehensive Mentor Profiles**

Create detailed profiles showcasing your skills, experience, and areas of expertise. These profiles help mentees choose the mentor who best matches their developmental needs.

#### **Detailed Reporting Capabilities**

Our platform offers comprehensive reporting tools, including automated reports detailing mentor engagement metrics, such as the total hours committed by each mentor. This feature is particularly valuable for corporate volunteers, enabling organizations to track and report the contributions of their employees accurately.

#### **Corporate Volunteering Opportunities**

At TEEI, we recognize the importance of corporate support and engagement in creating a more inclusive and caring environment for refugees. Through our Corporate Volunteering Opportunities, your company and employees can help support Ukrainians displaced from their homeland.

#### **Expert Video Library**

Mentors have the opportunity to create short, 2-minute expert videos showcasing their skills and expertise. These videos will be featured in our mentorship platform’s video library and shared on our LinkedIn mentorship page, providing valuable insights and inspiration to mentees

#### **Credly Badges for LinkedIn**

Mentors who reach certain hours of engagement will be eligible to receive Credly badges. These digital badges can be added to your LinkedIn profile, showcasing your commitment and contributions to the mentorship program and enhancing your professional credibility.

#### **Join Us**

Are you ready to make a positive impact and contribute to the professional growth of Ukrainians?

Whether you’re an experienced professional looking to share your insights or a Ukrainian seeking guidance, we welcome you to sign up.

The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) is excited to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the [Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine](https://www.rada.gov.ua/en).

TEEI becomes the primary provider of English language training for the Ukrainian Parliament as part of the Together for Ukraine initiative, supporting refugees, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and vulnerable communities through education.

### **Building Global Communication Skills**

Recognizing the need for enhanced English skills, the Verkhovna Rada aims to improve proficiency among its Members of Parliament, aides, and staff.

This aligns with Ukraine’s Law “On the Use of the English Language in Ukraine” No. 9432, which seeks to enhance international cooperation through better communication.

TEEI will offer a range of English courses from beginner to advanced levels using our cutting-edge Learning Management System (LMS) [itslearning](/?page_id=13518), ensuring an engaging and effective learning experience.

Lesia Vaolevska, Head of the Research Service at the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, emphasized the importance of this collaboration: “In the context of Ukraine’s integration into the European Union, proficiency in English is crucial for effective participation in international negotiations, the implementation of European integration initiatives, and ensuring compliance with European standards. Given Ukraine’s unwavering commitment to European and Euro-Atlantic integration, there is an urgent need to improve English language skills among Ukrainian public officials. We extend our sincere gratitude to the Educational Equality Institute and its Director Henrik Røine for supporting the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in organizing free online language courses as part of the ‘Together for Ukraine’ project. We look forward to a fruitful and enduring collaboration that will enhance their professional competence and advance Ukraine’s European integration goals.”

This collaboration underscores the important role that education technology can play in addressing real-world challenges.”

Arne Schepker, CEO of [Babbel](babbel.com), echoed the importance of language in rebuilding communities:

“Since the war began, Babbel has been committed to supporting displaced Ukrainians with free language courses, aiding their communication and recovery. Through our own efforts and partnerships with NGOs, we’ve reached over 700,000 Ukrainians. Recognizing that language plays a crucial role in connecting and rebuilding communities, we’re pleased to support members of the Ukrainian parliament in improving their international communication skills through our collaboration with the Educational Equality Institute.”

![Women entrepreneurs in business training](/r2/images/blog/women-entrepreneurs/image-1.jpeg)

## A Tailored Program for Women Entrepreneurs
WEEI is a transformative program specifically designed to meet the unique needs of Ukrainian women entrepreneurs. Its primary focus is on fostering social impact and sustainable entrepreneurship. The program offers training, mentorship, and support for women at any stage of business development, from new ventures and startups to established small businesses.

Working closely with local and international organizations, WEEI provides an expansive network of resources and expertise. This collaborative approach ensures comprehensive support and fosters a robust ecosystem for the growth and success of the participants.

We’ve divided the program into four key areas, each designed to equip women entrepreneurs with the tools, skills, and resources they need to succeed: Individual Entrepreneurship Training for Women (U:LEARN), Women’s MVP Incubator (U:START), Women’s Startup Accelerator (U:GROW), and Women’s Leadership Program (U:LEAD).

## Harnessing Technology for Growth

The program combines the flexibility of self-paced learning with the expertise of instructor-led classes and mentorship. WEEI’s dynamic platform offers an immersive learning experience and emphasizes practical applications, innovative methodologies, and industry-focused curricula.

## A Community of Support

WEEI goes beyond simple training and resources to build a solid and supportive community. The program fosters meaningful mentor-mentee relationships through its innovative mentorship platform, which leverages algorithms to find the best-matched mentor-mentee pairs.

## Fostering Growth through Specialized Programs

Each of WEEI’s specialized programs – U:LEARN, U:START, U:GROW, and U:LEAD – serves a specific purpose, targeting different stages of women’s business and professional development.

**U:LEARN** is an introductory course on entrepreneurship. This free 3-month program introduces participants to various entrepreneurial mindsets, creative problem-solving, and multiple pathways to entrepreneurship.

**U:START** is a complementary incubator program designed to kickstart new women-led Ukrainian startups. It helps launch, validate, and grow the participants’ startup ideas, enabling them to develop and commercialize their unique minimum viable products (MVPs).

**U:GROW** is an accelerator program that supports women-led Ukrainian startups in becoming investment-ready. This program helps to refine vision, go-to-market strategies, sales processes, and metrics while perfecting pitches and preparing strong fundraising plans.

**U:LEAD** is a program designed to enhance the leadership capacities of Ukrainian women. It helps participants refine their leadership style, lead their teams more effectively, and acquire the skills to manage other managers, align verticals, and guide organizations.

## Envisioning a Brighter Future

In a world where gender equality remains elusive, the Women’s Entrepreneurship Initiative is taking significant strides towards closing the gap, equipping Ukrainian women with the necessary tools, skills, and support to become successful entrepreneurs.

By building a platform where women can learn, grow, and succeed, the initiative is shaping a brighter, more equitable future for women entrepreneurs in Ukraine.

WEEI participants frequently use TEEI's other support infrastructure alongside entrepreneurship training. For Ukrainians, continuing their education or finding employment while settling into a new culture and getting familiar with a new language can make this even more complex.

The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) recognizes these challenges and has established a Mentorship Program to help refugees navigate this new phase of their lives. The Mentorship Program connects Ukrainians with expert mentors who can guide and support their educational and professional endeavours.

![Mentorship program session](/r2/images/blog/mentorship-program/main-image.jpg)

## Objectives of the Mentorship Program
The Mentorship Program revolves around two key objectives:

1. To promote the mentee’s educational, personal, and professional growth.
2. To boost the mentee’s confidence and motivation and to provide support.

The structure of the program is flexible, allowing for a personalized approach where mentors and mentees are matched based on their availability, interests, and goals.

## Types of Mentorships

To fulfill these objectives, the Together for Ukraine Mentorship Program offers two forms of mentorship to address these needs:

- **Student Mentorship**: Mentors assist and motivate student mentees on their learning journey, providing tailored support and follow-up guidance as they develop new skills and helping them to build professional networks.
- **Professional Mentorship**: Mentors help mentees navigate the job market by providing valuable feedback on resumes and cover letters and leverage their industry contacts to help mentees in identifying employment opportunities.

The Mentorship Program has proven invaluable. It assists refugees with their studies, helps them to find employment, and offers personalized support where needed most for each individual.

## Become a Mentor with #Together for Ukraine

## Join the Buddy Programme for Ukraine

Are you eager to make new friends and help others feel welcome in their new community?

![Buddy Programme for Ukraine](/r2/images/blog/buddy-program-for-ukraine/main-image.jpg)

The Buddy Programme for Ukraine is an initiative designed to help Ukrainians feel at ease and welcome in their new surroundings while offering locals an opportunity to help others while making new friends.

This program aims to promote the exchange of cultural insights, language skills, hobbies, and other interests while fostering friendships. It links Ukrainians with locals through digital and in-person get-togethers, offering engaging activities that encourage new connections and cultural understanding.

Let us take you through this opportunity and show you an overview of the program and how you can become part of this vibrant community:

## One-on-One Meetups

We pair each participant with a buddy with similar interests and goals, encouraging connections and support. Buddies meet regularly for casual activities like grabbing a coffee, exploring local attractions, playing sports, or exchanging language skills.

## Community Building

![Community Building Activities](/r2/images/blog/buddy-program-for-ukraine/community-building.png)

Our Buddy Programme for Ukraine is all about community building. We organise fun group events highlighting local culture and Ukrainian themes to promote cross-cultural connections and exchanges. On nature and city walks organized by TEEI, participants can explore stunning landscapes, attend cultural events, or participate in a dinner exchange program that unites local and Ukrainian families over shared dishes and cultural traditions. These events foster new friendships and help participants feel more connected to their local community.

We understand the immense impact of language, particularly for those adjusting to new environments. We aim to support displaced Ukrainians through language learning, helping them integrate into their new communities and opening doors to new opportunities.

## Online Language Courses:
## Structured Learning for Steady Progress

Our online language courses provide a structured learning environment for Ukrainians who want to learn a new language.

Supported by our dedicated education team, these courses are meticulously designed and led by experienced volunteer teachers.

Teachers can use their curated resources or opt for TEEI-provided materials, ensuring flexibility in teaching approaches. Our courses run 2-3 times weekly over 2-5 months, offering regular engagement and steady progress.

## Language Connect:

## A Digital Hub for Language Practice

In addition to our structured courses, we offer Language Connect, a digital hub connecting Ukrainians with international volunteer tutors for flexible one-on-one video sessions.

Our platform provides a perfect opportunity for individuals to practice their language skills in a more casual setting. In addition, the volunteers’ time commitment is flexible, and they can adjust their availability as needed.

[See programme about Language Connect.](https://theeducationalequalityinstitute.org/reclaiming-independence-language-connect-for-ukraine/)

## Supporting Our Teachers:

## Resources for Success

Our dedicated and passionate teachers are at the heart of our language learning programs. To support them in their crucial work, we provide a wealth of resources, from teaching materials from reputable sources like [Babbel](https://uk.babbel.com), [itslearning](https://itslearning.com) and [Oxford University Press](https://corp.oup.com/), to ongoing training and support.

To further support our teachers, we provide them with access to two essential tools: our proprietary video platform, which enables real-time student interaction, and TEEI itslearning, our cloud-based Learning Management System (LMS). With these powerful resources at their fingertips, our teachers are well-equipped to manage their classes effectively and support their students’ learning journeys.

## Language Training Program for Children:

## Learning Made Fun

Recognizing the unique needs of young learners, we use a range of resources specifically designed to make language learning engaging and enjoyable for children. [BOOKR Class](https://bookrclass.com), a digital library of animated books and games, is one of our key resources that makes language learning playful and easy for children. With engaging content and interactive features, it’s a tool that helps Ukrainian children develop their language skills while having fun.

“Good day.

I wanted to express my gratitude to the Educational Equality Institute and especially to Kayla for a wonderful English course. It was the best English course I attended. Each of the lessons was highly informative, useful and interesting. The material for study was full. And Kayla shared great links for listening to English. It was not only English lessons, but also a huge support from Kayla, and a break from the situation in Ukraine. Thank you all for a great course and I wish you all the best.” Alena

We aim to achieve this by strategically leveraging innovative technologies. Our primary goal is to support educators by providing them with supportive resources for seamlessly integrating these technologies into their teaching practices.
The expected outcomes include the development of a comprehensive guide, a shorter, quick-reference guide, and a curriculum tailored for educators working with vulnerable adult learners.

- The **Comprehensive Guide** will highlight innovative technologies designed to facilitate adult education. In addition to showcasing these technologies, it will also furnish practical recommendations for educators on how these technologies can be most effectively implemented.
- A **Short Guide** will be created for educators seeking quick reference and practical tips on integrating digital tools in their learning environments. This guide will streamline the implementation process for educators working with vulnerable adult learners.
- The **Curriculum** will be designed for educators working with vulnerable adult learners and will contain modules on topics including adaptive learning technologies and gamification. These modules will be curated to equip educators with resources that can be effectively applied in their teaching practices.

### Partnership details:

- Project Coordinator: The Educational Equality Institute (Norway)
- Project Partner: Lithuanian College of Democracy (Lithuania)

This initiative seeks to make a meaningful impact on adult education by giving educators the resources they need to implement innovative technologies in their learning environments.

With this in mind, we’re proud and humbled to announce our partnership with The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI), an NGO in Norway, to support Ukrainians around the world by connecting them with volunteer language teachers and conversational partners on [Language Connect](https://kintell.com/g/language-connect-for-ukraine), a free language learning platform powered by Kintell.

The starting point of this program was when [Henrik Røine](https://l.kintell.com/67JDDo), the founder of TEEI met the co-founders of Kintell on [UNSW Alumni Connect](https://kintell.com/articles/for-universities), also powered by Kintell. The three [UNSW](https://www.unsw.edu.au/) alumni who are located across Europe and Australia then decided to collaborate on this initiative to help the Ukrainian community globally.

## Introducing: Language Connect
A common challenge for Ukrainnians displaced by war is the need to speak the same language as their new community. That’s where we come in with our [world-class tech](https://kintell.com/features) and generous volunteers around the world to help.

The new programme with TEEI enables Ukrainians around the world to connect with language teachers to help overcome language barriers and improve their skills in English, Spanish, Italian, French and Polish (with new languages added each week as more join!). Thousands of Ukrainians are already learning new languages via 1-to-1 video tutorials and video classes on the platform.

Volunteer teachers around the world generously provide their teaching for free. “I really feel that I am contributing to the cause.The Ukrainian students are so grateful.” said [Charmaine De’ Ath](https://l.kintell.com/xbYD28), a teacher from South Africa, “I must have already taught more than 100 hours on the platform!”

## Help a Ukrainian
to speak your language

### Ukrainians can book you for a free video session to practice conversational skills!

## Powerful time negotiation for different time zones

Generous language tutors from around the world are giving back with Language Connect – but that also means managing some big time differences at times! Kintell [scheduling and booking](https://kintell.com/features/calendar-and-bookings) automatically considers time zone differences and can be synchronised with users’ calendars. In this way, learners and teachers only see what times work for both parties, no matter where they are in the world.

Kintell’s easy booking system enables [Amy Frewing](https://l.kintell.com/COD0mQ), one of the most popular tutors, to easily schedule her tutorials with tens of Ukrainians across Europe from her home in Oregon, U.S.A.

## Track your impact with data analytics

When it comes to getting additional support for a program, data matters. With Kintell’s integrated search, [booking](https://kintell.com/features/calendar-and-bookings) and [video conferencing](https://kintell.com/features/video-meetings), and native [data analytics](https://kintell.com/for-business) tools, TEEI has been able to collect concrete figures on the fast-growing number of Ukrainian users and total hours of tutorials through the program – and use that data to apply for funding support so they can continue their great work.

## Self-serve member connect for scale

In fact, every month, hundreds of new learners are applying to join the program – and there’s no sign of slowing down. Because Language Connect is ‘self-serve’, the impact – and reach – is endlessly scalable. Soon Language Connect will support tens of thousands of Ukrainians who need to learn a new language quickly – and help them make lifelong connections in the process.

## Powering video classes and bite-size content

As the digital partner of TEEI, Kintell also offers its best-in-class [video meeting](https://kintell.com/features/video-meetings) to support virtual group classes. Ukrainians around the world are accessing these classes mainly via Kintell’s mobile apps ([iOS](https://apps.apple.com/au/app/kintell/id1419104805) and [Android](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kintell.kintellapp)), which offers extra convenience to have a class anytime anywhere. Bite-size video introductions of the teachers also help Ukrainian learners decide who they want to learn from.

A shared language is very much the currency of communication, driving better understanding, compassion, and the meaningful pursuit of our common goals. For us at Kintell, that’s **kin**dness + **intell**igence – so we’re keen to support the initiatives and the good people who are helping open up doors to those who need support.

If you’re ready to help out and have excellent language skills, then head to [Language Connect](https://kintell.com/g/language-connect-for-ukraine) and sign up as a volunteer tutor! On the other hand, if you are a Ukrainian who is keen to learn a new language, please join a world of learning and support waiting for you!

Language Connect complements TEEI's other programmes for displaced Ukrainians. Once learners build enough confidence to discuss their professional backgrounds, [Mentors for Ukraine](/blog/mentors-for-ukraine-400-professionals-helping-ukrainians/) connects them with 400+ volunteer mentors who can review CVs, explain European hiring norms, and prepare them for interviews. For those building digital careers, the [DataCamp partnership](/blog/datacamp-partnership-10k-students/) gives 10,000+ Ukrainians free access to data science training — skills they then use Language Connect sessions to practise explaining in job interviews.

<authorRole>Communications</authorRole><readingTime>4 min</readingTime>

TEEI launches Language Connect

“Your tongue can get you all the way to Kyiv”. TEEI launches Language Connect
TEEI offers its educational platform to help people from Ukraine practice language skills with international volunteer teachers. The volunteer service is provided in partnership with [Kintell](https://theeducationalequalityinstitute.org/kintell/). Participation is free.

Over 13 million people have had to leave Ukraine since the war started, and they found themselves in new countries with people speaking completely different languages.

TEEI connects people who want to practice language skills with volunteers on a platform provided by Kintell. Ukrainian refugees can learn the language of their host country, enhance their integration into the communities, and improve their ability to access the local job market.

Ukrainians sign up for free and start learning by choosing the teacher and the language they want. Currently, more than ten languages are available: from English and German, to Lithuanian and Korean. The sessions are held in a friendly and easy-to-use digital environment over 1-1 video sessions. It is not just all language learning but also an opportunity for students to practice and connect with native speakers around the world.

### I am from Ukraine, and I want to join. How can I do it?

Sign up and find a tutor who speaks the language you wish to learn, and book a video session to learn from them.

### I am eligible to teach. How can I help?

Sign up for Language Connect and help Ukrainians prepare for life and work in their new country.

Language Connect is one part of a broader ecosystem for displaced Ukrainians. The [Language Connect programme overview](/blog/language-connect-for-ukraine/) describes how 8,000+ learners have used conversation practice to build job-market confidence since the programme launched. Once learners are ready to discuss their professional backgrounds, [Mentors for Ukraine](/blog/mentors-for-ukraine-400-professionals-helping-ukrainians/) connects them with 400+ volunteer career mentors who review CVs and explain European hiring norms. The Educational Equality Institute [supports](https://theeducationalequalityinstitute.org/teei-and-kharkiv-school-of-architecture/) the Kharkiv School of Architecture (KhSA) through our Ukrainian University Support Program. But KhSA is striving for more than just continuing the educational process. That's why we share its story and goals for 2022 and postwar.

The Kharkiv School of Architecture is a private university that offers undergraduate and graduate qualifications in architecture and urban planning. The students were displaced to Lviv midway through the current academic year due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

[The Educational Equality Institute](https://theeducationalequalityinstitute.org/about-us) provides crucial assistance to continue the school’s activity and admit new students in the upcoming academic year. The Norwegian NGO supplies the KhSA with lecturers, hardware, software, equipment, and furniture, as well as access to the learning management system [*itslearning*](https://itslearning.com/global).

### A postwar vision

The most crucial challenge now for the KhSA is to train a new generation of built environment professionals specifically to address Ukraine’s current challenges for shelter and housing and plan for its postwar reconstruction.

Among other things, the KhSA plans to achieve its short-term goals:

1. Complete the professional training of 26 students.
2. Develop a new curriculum to address current and future postwar challenges.
3. Design and disseminate a budget and work plan for the next academic year.
4. Provide scholarships and monthly scholarships to students in need of financial support.
5. First aid training and mental health support for all staff and students.

### Funding Ukraine’s Future

In previous years, the KhSA was financially supported by philanthropic donations and students’ parents. But now, individuals and families have found themself in survival mode, and the KhSA urgently seeks $260,000 to allow students to complete their studies for 2021/2022.

This financial help is needed to keep the school open, keep the students in education, and strengthen a coalition of professionals, citizens, and communities to catalyze Ukraine’s re-building.

#### Support KhSA by donating on their website.

TEEI's support for Ukrainian universities is part of a broader infrastructure for educational continuity. The partnership with [Kharkiv School of Architecture](/blog/teei-and-kharkiv-school-of-architecture/) shows how TEEI channels resources directly into displaced institutions. For students and faculty who need career guidance alongside educational continuity, [Mentors for Ukraine](/blog/mentors-for-ukraine-400-professionals-helping-ukrainians/) connects displaced professionals with 400+ volunteer mentors who understand European labour markets. Language barriers remain one of the most persistent obstacles to integration - [Language Connect](/blog/language-connect-for-ukraine/) provides free 1-to-1 conversation practice to help displaced Ukrainians communicate in their host countries.

<authorRole>Communications</authorRole><readingTime>2 min</readingTime>
